Happy Monday everyone! Last week, Whitney received an email from a friend sharing this following poem with us. I thought it was so wonderful and I had to share it. You know it will be hanging in our daughter’s room someday. I feel an art project coming on……
Once there were two women who never knew each other.
One you do not remember, the other you call Mother.
Two different lives shaped to make you one.
One became your guiding star, the other became your sun.
The first one gave you life, and the second taught you to live it.
The first gave you a need for love. The second was there to give it.
One gave you a nationality. The other gave you a name.
One gave you a talent. The other gave you aim.
One gave you emotions. The other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile. The other dried your tears.
One sought for you a home that she could not provide.
The other prayed for a child and her hope was not denied.
And now you ask me, through your tears,
the age-old question unanswered through the years.
Heredity or environment, which are you a product of?
Neither, my darling. Neither. Just two different kinds of Love.

Well, to this point all of the posts have been written by Tara, so I thought it was time to input the “man side of the story” and give some “man” details. Translation to that of course is simply to say that there have been a lot of questions from people asking about the timeline. The long and short of the answer is: GOOOOOOD QUESTION! Basically, we are learning (and learning a LOT) as we start to work our way through this process. We at this point know what the major checkpoints, or stages, are to the process, but how long it actually takes to get through each stage is full of many many variables (some of which we don’t really understand completely yet.) There are timing constraints of dealing with two separate agencies (1 agency works with us to set up all the legal aspects of going through an international adoption; the 2nd agency performs our home study, which must be a special type of home study agency in order for an international adoption to be processed [international home study reports are far more detailed than domestic home study reports]). The two agencies, which are completely separate, must time their actions appropriately so that the each phase occurs within both U.S. law and India’s laws. I hope I’m not boring everyone with the “guy details” but understanding all of these facts, figuring out how to work through them and how a wrong step in timing could cost us both time and money are the details that weigh on my mind. So what does all of that mean?
Well – The timeline is in God’s hands and certainly not in ours! When talking with the agencies about timing of each step and processing through the U.S. and India we are given that ever so short window in time of “…Well, it could be anywhere from 8 months to two years.” So you know – VERY easy to plan for the future with that short window 😉 I know Tara has posted it before, but although we do not have a lot of details around timing at this stage, what little we do know is that our daughter is out there. She’s out there RIGHT NOW….I don’t’ know what she’s doing, I don’t know where she is, I know she is too young to even conceptualize that her parents are on the other side of the world right now just waiting to come get her. It’s a strange thought for sure. I spoke with my sister today on the phone and she was telling me how excited she was to get to meet her new niece someday and can’t wait for it to happen and she had mentioned that, although WE don’t know her yet, God already has her picked out for us and if God has her picked out for us then He’s probably given our little girl some measure of peace and comfort. She will NOT have to grow up on the streets; she will NOT spend 15 or 18 years in an orphanage. Our God picked our daughter out of billions of people just for us. Will it be 8 months until she is in her new home? Will it be TWO YEARS until it’s all finished? I hope it is closer to the first than the second, but whenever she gets here….she is on her way right now!
I hope this all is not too confusing or filled with too many details for those of you who just want to follow the process, but one thing we have already learned is that we were willfully ignorant as to how the adoption process worked. There are people out there all over the place who give their time, money and hearts to their children that were not born to them and there is a world of children waiting for their parents to find them. We are hoping that through this blog we can raise adoption awareness, teach everyone about the process AND learn it all for ourselves. We can’t wait to get closer to the upcoming stages where we will start to learn what some of the actual dates are. When we know we will certainly share it with all of our followers (does that sound too much like a cult thing 😉
Thanks again for all your support and love during this wonderful time!
